What Happens Here

June 7, 2018

Before renting a car and heading to Zion I did one last trip down the strip for last bit of shopping and Vegas things. A visit to the Hershey's store was required. I got a few treats and a picture with Hershey Man. I spent a minute in the Coke store which of course had a giant world's largest coke bottle.

Walking to get lunch I spotted a local brewery, Sin City. You know I always have to try local and craft beers, so i got a flight of tasty lager, hefeweizen, stout and IPA. In 100+ degree heat those all hit the spot. In the bar, I had a conversation with another patron (Washington Capitals hockey fan) and the bartender (Las Vegas Golden Knights hockey fan). This town has gone hockey mad with Knights paraphernalia everywhere.

Of course, there are plenty of Caps fans in town for the game that night. The Caps won the game and Lord Stanley's Cup as NHL Champions. A great  story on both sides of the ice. An expansion team getting that far is unheard of. And Caps fans have long suffered. Congratulations to both.

In Vegas, every celebrity or celebrity chef it seems, has a restaurant. I Giada, Gordon Ramsay, Guy Fieri, Wolfgang, Emeril, etc.  I decided what the Hell and went to chef José Andrés' Asian/Mexican fusion place, China Poblano at the Cosmopolitan. Although I'm not sure I would call it fusion; it just has Chinese and Mexican items on the same menu. I had the "Lucky 6," a sampling of shrimp and pork, scallops and beef Siu Mai dumplings; "Ants Climbing a Tree," stir fry noodles, chicken, and Chinese vegetables; and "Pollo a la Parilla", grilled chicken and guacamole tacos.

Some of these hotels themed after cities or areas give me fond memories of the real places I've been and make me think of returning. Paris has crepe cafes and restaurants and the Venetian has simulated canals, shops, and architecture of Venice. Ah, Venice. I heard a man tell his wife, we don't need to go there, it's all right here! Well yeah, but not really. Take your wife to Venice my friend.

Every day I've seen show girls in skimpy clothes and feathers roaming the street. I like showgirls on skimpy clothes. With a little confidence and bravado, I managed to get a photo with these gorgeous girls.

And from these pretty girls, to these lovely creatures at Flamingos. It won't cost you a thing to go to the small wildlife habitat behind the casino.

Now we head to Southern Utah for some more adventures. So long, Vegas, where even the straws are bigger than you've ever seen.
