Anchorage Aweigh

July 4, 2021

I was spending 2 nights in Anchorage. Not on shore leave and no Gene Kelly around. But at first glance, Anchorage seemed boring and I wanted to leave. It isn't bad, it's just a city, far spread out, and no real obvious arts or music or food scene. And it's not a mountain, park, river, lake...you get the idea.

But I happened to be in town for July 4th weekend. Well, not just by accident, kind of planned. It is my itinerary after all.

I walk a few blocks from the hotel and see signs of life. A ferris wheel and rides. People and food trucks. An Alaska 4th of July Parade and Festival at Delany Park!

What a fun day Anchorage! I misjudged!  The parade was fun and short (bonus points). There was a reindeer!

Alaska Mac & Cheese Dog? Yes please, Tiki Pete's Alaskan Grill.

Salmon Quesadilla? Yes please,  Wild Alaska.

Midnight Sun Wolfpack Pilsner and Pleasure Town IPA. Sure.

And LIVE MUSIC! REAL BANDS! WITH AN AUDIENCE. YAY!

I don't even care that it's country! There was also an 80s cover band, a 70s cover band, and a more modern hard rock band.

And fireworks after "dark" because it never really gets dark in summer. Dusk fireworks I guess.

Thanks 4th of July!

'Murica

After a huge breakfast at Peggy's, I rent a car and head south to Homer and Seward. Fresh Fish!

I'm not in Hawaii, I'll call her Kodiak.
